From what I can tell shopping around online, the official costume only comes in a few styles and is only available in child sizes right now.
But of course you always have the option to make your own costume (or for movie premiere night) with the available accessories and piecing them together with clothes from your closet or even pulling out the sewing machine and getting creative.
The basic concept with the Hobbit costume is to stick with the simple design. Tan or brown baggy pants that are cut just below the knee, brown cape or jacket (depending on which style you want to go with), a white shirt that is tucked into the pants, layered with a vest. You can either go barefoot, as the Hobbits generally do, or you can purchase “Hobbit feet” online or at a costume show that are really shoes or slippers made to look like extra large feet with mud spots and wild foot hair.
If you’re going all out for accessories you can also pick up things like prosthetic ears and the One Ring replicas to carry in your pocket or wear on a chain around your neck.
There are a few premade costumes available off the shelf, and of course there’s a Gandalf the Grey costume because Hobbits need some help on their journey!
But for the most part you can work with what you already have, buy a few nice Hobbit-like accessories, and have a great costume for trick-or-treat, your Halloween party, or just for fun on movie night!
